The Mecklenburg Historical Association Docents are presenting a program on Tuesday, January 5th, 2016, at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, 101 West Sugar Creek Road. It will feature Steve Watts, who directs the Aboriginal Studies and Traditional Outdoors Skills Programs at the Schiele Museum of Natural History in Gastonia. He will talk about the life of the backwoodsman in the land west of the Catawba River during the two decades prior to the American Revolution. He’ll discuss and demonstrate the clothes, food, tools, weapons and other gear that these frontiersmen used as they traveled through the forests and savannahs, hunted for wild game and experienced hostile encounters with the Cherokee Indians. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 10 a.m., and then the history program at 11 a.m.
