Around the World in Objects: A World-Building Adventure with Listening Labs

This workshop is designed for teens and adults. It’s free, but registration is requested.

Travel the world through folklore, imagination, and play! In this free interactive workshop, participants will explore meaningful objects from folktales, reimagine their powers, and create and share stories together. No storytelling experience is needed—just bring your curiosity.

Around the World in Objects is a playful, interactive storytelling adventure where participants work together to transform ordinary objects into extraordinary worlds.

At the start of the workshop, you’ll receive a mystery object and a unique superpower. Working in small teams, you’ll use your imagination to create characters, cultures, challenges, and adventures inspired by the objects you’ve been given. Along the way, you’ll discover how objects can carry stories, memories, and meaning across generations and communities.

No writing, acting, artistic, or gaming experience is required. Whether you’re a lifelong storyteller, a board game enthusiast, a creative thinker, or simply curious, you’ll find a welcoming space to imagine, collaborate, and connect with others.

This program is presented by Listening Labs and supported through Culture Blocks, a community partnership funded by Mecklenburg County and presented in partnership with the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.
