Davidson Library is hosting a Hunger Games pre-party for teens age 12-18 on March 23rd, from 6pm to 8pm.

Here’s what they say: Celebrate the release of the Hunger Games film at the Davidson Branch pre-party. Activities will include a costume contest, Cornucopia Challenge, trivia, door prizes and a Capitol Feast. May the odds be ever in your favor.

The event listing does not say that registration is required, but you might want to call 704-416-4000 for peace of mind.

Find information on the 2013 summer program.
Do you know a high school student interested in a career in law enforcement? The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department offers a free one week summer program for interested teens. At the High School Police Academy, students will learn about many topics, including laws, traffic offenses, the 4th amendment (one of my personal favorite amendments, along with the 13th, 15th, 19th, and 21st amendments), crime scenes, report-writing, and much more. To apply for this free program, download and print out this application form. The first session runs in July, and the second in August.

Have you ever wanted someone to give you a whole bunch of duct tape and tell you to do whatever you want with it? (Actually I know some people who should never be given that opportunity.) On Thursday, January 21st, from 5PM to 6PM, teens 12 – 18 can use their imaginations to make amazing things out of duct tape at The Loft at ImaginOn. This is a free activity. That’s right. The library is footing the bill for the duct tape.
