The Charlotte Observer reports that the City of Newton is offering free mulch to residents, non-residents, and contractors. The mulch will be offered from January 17th, 2012, to January 21st, 8:30am to 2:30pm each day, at city’s facility on Boston Road, off NC 10. Need more info? Call 828-695-4310.

Saturday, May 14th, 2011, from 10am until 4pm, Historic Gold Hill Strawberry Festival will take place at 840 St. Stephen’s Church Road in Historic Gold Hill Village. The village’s unique shops and the Stamp Mill Café invite the public to experience the quaint village of Historic Gold Hill. In village shops they will find crafts, antiques, home décor, steel metal work, gifts, teas, stained glass, jewelry, pottery, original art, quilt and more. In addition, for the festival local artists and crafters are invited to showcase and sell their creations and will be set up throughout in the village.
Delicious locally-grown strawberries will be available in all the shops.
Gold Hill is about two hours from Charlotte.
