Mecklenburg National Food Day is part of National Food Day, which promotes healthy, sustainable, affordable, and just food systems in America. The Mecklenburg event will take place Saturday, October 22nd, 2011, from 9am to 3pm, at Bette Rae Thomas Center, 2921 Tuckaseegee Road. At the event, you can celebrate and learn about local food, as well as taste some of it.
Living Foods Laboratory
Join the culinary staff and students of the prestigious Johnson & Wales University at Charlotte for a tasty experience. Chefs will provide demonstrations and tastings reflecting healthy, quick and easy meals; raw food dishes; and healthy desserts.

The Kids’ Corner
Childhood obesity has more than tripled over the past 30 years according to the Centers for Disease Control. Join us as we engage our youth in hands on activities to learn about our food system, gardening basics and benefits of healthy eating. Activities are appropriate for all ages.

Sow Much Good, Inc Farm Stand
Nestled in Huntersville, NC is a fruitful micro farm with bounties of luscious sustainably-grown produce managed by Sow Much Good, INC. Their core goals focus on creating healthy foods, healthy people and healthy communities through education, diet, nutrition and environmental sustainability. As such, the Sow Much Good farm stand will provide fresh, local and organic produce for sale during the Food Day celebration. EBT Accepted

Health and Wellness Expo
The health and wellness resources are plentiful in Mecklenburg County. However, resources are only good when others take advantage of them. The Health and Wellness Expo will include vendors specializing in wellness waters, organic and local food products and community resources to help you and your family stay healthy!
The Health and Wellness Expo will be available from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
