This is one of the coolest “Get to know the show” events yet. The Aluminum Show “brings together special effects, creative mechanisms and acrobatic dance. Inanimate objects come to life with energy, emotion and even personality, as silver industrial materials create a luminous and reflective world” according to the official word.

The “get to know the show” event is aimed at kids in elementary school and middle school. There are two parts to it, both free.

December 31st, 3PM to 4PM at ImaginOn: Hardin Minor with Omimeo Mime Theatre will lead kids in fun, interactive activities to prepare them for the show.

Then at 5PM on the 3rd floor of Discovery Place, artists will be on hand to help kids create their own aluminum costumes. The kids can then be a part of the “people’s parade” during First Night Charlotte, which starts at 7PM, and which has an “aluminum theme.” The folks with the best costumes will win prize packages that include tickets to The Aluminum Show.

Also, there will be discounts on tickets to the Aluminum Show at Discovery Place during the costume making event, and in the First Night brochure.

Make sure to click on this link and RSVP.

The Aluminum Show will be at Knight Theater from January 12th to January 31, 2010.

Rain, an excellent Beatles tribute band, is performing at the Belk Theatre November 1st, and in support of that, there will be a free Get to know the show” event for Rain on Sunday, October 25th, from 6PM to 8PM at Alley Cat at 314 College Street. I just went to the get to know the show” event for Street Beat last night and had a blast. The Rain one sounds fantastic. There will be live music courtesy of the Tosco Music Party, a Beatles costume contest, and a Beatles trivia contest. You’ll receive a voucher for a discounted ticket to Rain, and a chance to win free tickets.
