Event: 2010-2011 Gathering Concert Series
Performers: A Tribute to Mother Maybelle Carter by Jonesalee
Concert Date: March 11, 2011
Time: 7:30 PM; doors open 7:00 PM
Cost: Free; donations appreciated.

The Charlotte Folk Society’s second-Friday March 11th Gathering features Jonesalee in a tribute to Mother Maybelle Carter. The public is invited to join us at 7:30 PM in the warm and beautiful listening room of the Great Aunt Stella Center, 926 Elizabeth Avenue, for a rare and special Charlotte concert. Doors open at 7 PM.

Monthly Folk Society Gatherings are family-friendly and free. Donations, which support the series, are greatly appreciated. A short refreshment break follows the hour-long concert. Afterwards, join a song circle or a jam session – slow or fast – listeners welcomed. The Charlotte Appalachian Dulcimer Club meets after the concert, as well; visitors are invited to play on a “loaner” instrument. Free surface parking is available adjacent to the Stella Center. The arm of the nearby parking deck goes up for the weekend at 8 PM. Visitors who pick up tickets on their way in won’t be charged if they leave after 8 PM.

Gina Jones (aka Gina Stewart) teams up with songwriting partner/fiddler Brenda Lee Gambill in the duo Jonesalee. They collaborate to honor Mother Maybelle Carter, who would have celebrated her 100th birthday in May of 2009. Heidi Dove, on guitar, and Earleen Hicks, on guitar and bass, join Gina and Brenda Lee to re-create the four-part harmonies of Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters (Anita, Helen, and June Carter Cash).

Please read about this concert New Year’s Day at The Evening Muse. Details are below, but a note from Charlotte on the Cheap: This concert is to try to help Evening Muse owners replace some of the very expensive gear that was stolen in a breakin. The Evening Muse is a huge contributor to the music scene in Charlotte. It’s a small, comfortable venue where the focus is on the music. The acoustics are fantastic, and the caliber of the acts that come through The Evening Muse is phenomenal, especially considering the very low cover charge of all of the shows. If you can help the owners, either through attending the show, or making a donation online, please consider doing so. All the performers below are performing free of charge, and they’re asking for just a $5 donation, which is a flat out bargain.

Joe (and Lea) Kuhlmnn’s studio (owner of the Evening Muse) was broken into earlier this month and a lot of gear/equipment was stolen. Some local musicians have come together to help out by donating their time and talent to the cause.

It’s gonna be a fun night. Come party with us on New Years Night for a great cause! The fun starts at 8:00 sharp. This is a free show, but since this is for a specific purpose and for a good cause, we’d appreciate a donation.

If you cant be there Saturday, you can still help! Here is a link for donations:

8:20 – Matrimony
