Exhibition Kick-Off Celebration for Doomsday: Apocalypse Now & Then
Thursday, March 7, 2024
6 to 9 p.m.
Free (suggested donation: $10)
Step into a realm where the boundaries between past, present, and possibility blur, where the apocalypse is not just an end but a beginning, and where joy emerges from the darkest of hours. Doomsday: Apocalypse Now & Then is a visual and performance art exhibition that invites the viewer to contemplate the intersection of existence, time’s ceaseless march, and the resilience of humanity. This exhibition, featuring local artists, offers a glimpse into the complexities of our collective consciousness, the nature of existence, and the transformative power of joy, weaving threads of optimism and resilience into the fabric of their creations.
The exhibition runs from March 7 – April 14.
The kick-off celebration includes a chance to meet the artists, and see live drawing by Brian Stelfreeze, as well as live poetry and musical performances.
Family Day
Saturday, March 9, 2024
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free
Family Day at McColl Center is fun for all ages! Join us for a variety of creative experiences with our current Artists in Residence. Adrian Rhodes will host a printmaking lesson using her woodcut blocks and will explain the printmaking process; Asa Jackson will coordinate the construction of a tapestry that sews together the stories and fabrics of participants; Carlie Trosclair will conduct a hands-on experience of painting with latex to create an architectural skin that explores the building’s life; and Johnny Floyd will open his studio and share his paintings and thoughts with all. Once you’ve taken part in all the different art stations, explore the galleries with a special scavenger hunt and have the chance to win a prize!
Bring a piece of fabric or clothing that has meaning to you that can be cut into pieces for inclusion in the community tapestry.
