adams ribThe Charlotte Mecklenburg Library invites the public to see the 1949 Spencer Tracy film “Adam’s Rib” on Saturday, August 31st, 2013, at 2pm, at Wells Fargo Playhouse in ImaginOn,300 East 7th Street. Directed by George Cukor, this film also stars Katharine Hepburn and Judy Holliday. This is a free event.

In George Cukor’s sophisticated comedy, husband-and-wife lawyers square off as adversaries in the same criminal trial. Husband-and-wife writing team Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon tailored the script specifically for Hepburn and Tracy (their sixth film together). And yet it’s Judy Holliday, in a secondary role, who almost steals the movie! In 1992, the film was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. It’s also very funny.
