Information on Si Kahn from Charlotte Folk Society:

Si Kahn has made his home in Charlotte for 30+ years. Not many folks in our community realize that Si’s songs are known, loved, and performed all around the world. Si’s 16th recording, Courage, was named #1 CD for 2010 by the Folk Alliance International. Peace Will Rise, from Courage, was named #1 Song and Si Kahn was named #1 Artist, as well, in 2010.

Next spring, Si will celebrate both his 70th birthday and his 40th year as a recording artist. Si’s 18th album, Aragon Mill: The Bluegrass Sessions, was released in Europe in May and officially in North America this month. A “greatest hits” CD, it features some of his best known and most loved songs, including Aragon Mill, Gone Gonna Rise Again, and Wild Rose of the Mountain. Grammy winner Tim O’Brien notes, “Si Kahn’s fine songs have always held a mirror to the hardships and hopes of Southern working men and women, which is why they fit so well with the string band sound on Aragon Mill: The Bluegrass Sessions. These are true life stories in a real hands on setting.”

Si has chosen to make his “greatest hits” CD with a German bluegrass band. He could not have chosen better. The Looping Brothers (think Ira and Charlie Louvin) are one of Europe’s most respected, experienced, and best-loved bluegrass bands, having worked and toured with such bluegrass legends as Bill Monroe, the Osborne Brothers, Kenny Baker, Josh Graves, and Dan Crary. Laurie Lewis, one of our finest bluegrass musicians today says, “Si and his songs are jewels here on Earth.” The Looping Brothers have provided for them the perfect setting.

Si Kahn & The Looping Brothers are touring for three weeks this fall in the Southeast, kicking off their tour in Raleigh, performing at the IBMA World of Bluegrass Conference/Wide Open Bluegrass. We are delighted to host them for Si’s hometown concert.
