Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee has announced a free family festival CarolinaFest 2012 that will kick off the DNC convention week. The festival will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd, 2012, starting with a Labor Day Parade from 10am until 12pm, and then a festival until around 6:15pm. Festivities will take place on Tryon Street between Stonewall and Trade streets and on The Green. The Charlotte Observer reports some details: Museums in this area, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Mint Museum Uptown and Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture will offer free admission. Nearby Discovery Place and NASCAR Hall of Fame will have half price admission, and Levine Museum of the New South will have a discounted admission of $5. The entertainment schedule will be announced soon.
