UNCC Center City, 320 E. 9th Street, is introducing a new festival, Center City Literary Festival, on Saturday, October 12th, 2013. There will be an afternoon portion from 12:00pm to 3:30pm, especially for kids, and an evening portion from 6:30pm to 9:30pm for adults. For both sessions, each author has been paired with an artist, who will create a work of art in response to the author’s work. The artwork will be unveiled during the author’s reading.
The children’s program in the afternoon includes many interactive activities for kids. Kids can play with a giant Scrabble board, view a 30-foot Blue Heron puppet created by World of Good Creations and witness the unveiling of the new electric ART car by Lee Baumgarten. The afternoon program will also feature live painting by Jimi Thompson and a popular culture podcast for kids and parents by father and son duo Andres and Jacob Echevarria. Various artists and organizations will sponsor activity centers for children, including, Carolinas Aviation Museum, Gonza’s Art, ecoFAB Trash Couture, Heather Freeman, and First Ward Creative Arts Academy, the English Department Freshman Learning Community, and UNC Charlotte’s Children’s Literature Graduate Organization.
