McDowell Nature Preserve, at 15222 York Road, will offer family activities each weekend through September as part of a program called The Great Urban Escape.
Fridays at 6:30pm: Playing with Fire at the McDowell Campground fire pit. Learn to start a matchless fire. Afterwards enjoy the campfire, sing songs, play games, listen to stories and eat s’mores.
Fridays at 8:15pm: Nature at Night Hayride. $1 a person. Pre-registration required.
Saturdays, 9am to 11am: Family kayak tours. $15 per boat. $20 per tandem boat. Children age 5 to 9 must share a tandem boat with an adult. Pre-registration required.
Saturdays, 2pm and 4pm: Live Animal Talks
Sundays, 1pm to 3pm: Family kayak tours. $15 per boat. $20 per tandem boat. Children age 5 to 9 must share a tandem boat with an adult. Pre-registration required.
Sundays, 4pm: Live Animal Talks
Sundays, 4pm: Get Dirty with Messy By Nature. Messy crafts outside the Nature Center.
