This month’s concert is “Carrying It On”: Charlotte Folk Society 12th Annual Young Talent Showcase. Each season the Charlotte Folk Society highlights the talents of young acoustic musicians who are carrying forward our musical legacy.
Performers this year range in age from seven to seventeen years. Their resumes include performances at Festival in the Park, the Tosco Music Party, the Singing Christmas Tree, Historic Rural Hill, and MerleFest. Some have captured prizes at fiddlers’ conventions. Some are home schooled; some attend public schools, and some attend private schools; many are honor students. Some are multi-instrumentalists. Three are winners of the Folk Society’s Marilyn Meacham Price Youth Scholarship to the Swannanoa Gathering Folk Arts Workshops at Warren Wilson College. Musical interests range from Celtic fiddle tunes to bluegrass to Gypsy jazz to American old-time tunes to singer/songwriter original material.
