The Third Annual Latke Festival will take place at Atherton Mill and Market, 2104 South Boulevard, on Friday, December 7th, 2012, from 10am to 1pm. Somehow I hadn’t heard of this annual event so I missed the first and second Latke Festivals, but I won’t repeat that mistake. The Pickleman will be demonstrating his takes on the traditional Hanukkah delicacy. He states that he will create more variations on the simple potato pancake than anybody else (sort of a Latke Throwdown) so I will expect to be impressed. He’s promising variations like “White potatoes, Sweet potatoes, Curried, Cajun, Tex-Mex, dessert, main course, appetizers, breakfast, gluten free, vegan, and more.” We might ask, however, when a variation causes a latke to no longer be a latke, but I’ll leave that to the philosophers or Rabbinical authorities to debate. There will be FREE food and we can all agree on that. There might be free music.
