Behailu Academy, a new non-profit organization at 451 E. 36th St. in NODA, will provide arts and community service opportunities to youth age 12-18. There will be low-cost (just $5) classes on Friday nights. At a Grand Opening Kickoff on Friday, October 19th, 2012, kids can try the classes for free. The schedule includes:

Guitar clinics: 3pm to 4:30pm
Spoken word – poetry: 4:30pm to 6pm
Mixed media: 4:30pm to 6pm
Spoken word – poetry: 4:30pm to 6pm
Poetry slam: 6:30pm (participants can sign up at 6pm.)

On Mondays-Thursdays, Behailu Academy hosts the Behailu Youth Artist Collective, a free after school youth apprenticeship project that encourages students to stay in school, engage in their communities and pursue arts affiliated opportunities.
