Five Charlotte area festivals this weekend

Looking for something to do? The extended Charlotte area boasts several diverse festivals this weekend, ranging from folk art to film to just good fall fun. They’re all free unless otherwise specified. Make sure to follow the links to get necessary information about each festival.

Waxhaw First Frightday: The first Friday of every month, downtown Waxhaw hosts a free evening of fun for all. Friday, October 5th, the theme is “First Frightday” and it includes pumpkin decorating, free carriage rides and much more.

Ballantyne Festival: This fall festival at Morrison Family YMCA features hayrides, pumpkin painting, moon bounce, juggling, paint-your-own pottery, and a free movie when it gets dark.

Blues & Jazz Festival for kids: Part of the York County Blues & Jazz Festival is a special festival just for kids. Enjoy live music, an introduction to musical instruments used by blues musicians, Pickles Da Clown and more, in Rock Hill.

Lake Norman Folk Art Festival: At a campground in Sherrill’s Ford on Saturday, this festival includes live music, arts activities for kids and work from dozens of folk artists from many traditions.

Modern Film Fest: This festival, at the beautiful Gem Theatre in Kannapolis, brings us independent films at very affordable prices. Films are $4, or you can get a discounted package of tickets starting at $18 for 5 tickets.
