A free event at Duke Mansion, 400 Hermitage Road, will introduce you to Charlotte’s new Liberty Walk, also free. The program takes place on Sunday, September 16th, 2012, at 3pm. Why was the city called a “hornet’s nest of rebellion?” A new self-guided history tour in center city Charlotte, the Liberty Walk, uses a multimedia app to answer those questions and bring Charlotte’s early history to life.
Speakers include Scott Syfert, cofounder of the May 20th Society, and Dan Nance, historical artist and creator of the Charlotte Liberty Walk mobile app. Nance painted original artwork for the app that portrays battles and historic scenes at each stop. Syfert and Nance will describe what Charlotte was like during its early formative years and how the Walk and app help readers imagine historical events right where they occurred in Charlotte.
