
The entire community is invited to the 2nd Annual UNCC Center City Community Celebration on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012, from 12pm to 6:30pm. Explore UNCC Center City, at 320. E. 9th Street, and enjoy demonstrations, performance and displays highlighting UNCC programs and departments. The event will be MC’d by National Poetry Slam Master Boris Rogers.
Some of the highlights:
* UNC Charlotte mascot NORM The NINER, local DJ’s, the band VESS and La Raza radio station
* Center City Scavenger Hunt, which will take participants through the 11 floors of the building
* Meet the new Charlotte 49ers Football Team from 3pm until 4:30pm. They’ll be on hand to lead low impact athletic drills for kids and to sign autographs.
* Festival of New Plays: See six short pieces written by local playwrights at 5pm. (Also Sunday at 2pm.)
* NASA-inspired family activities in the library
* The Hip Hop Caucus, an organization working to energize and empower young people to vote, will be on hand with information and giveaways.
* A new mural by John Hairston Jr. on the Brevard Street wall
* Family friendly activities from Levine Museum of the New South, including conversational proxemics, a global greetings match game, a fashion exploration and examination of historic/cultural artifacts.
