Night Ranger, Loverboy, and Clay Walker will be the headliners at Food Lion Speed Street 2012. Speed Street, a preview to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, takes place from Thursday, May 24th, 2012, through Saturday, May 26th, 12pm to 11pm each day. The festival takes place along Tryon Street and MLK Boulevard. This map shows the layout and street closings.
There are two main stages:
The Coca-Cola stage: Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Brevard Street and Caldwell Street at the NASCAR Hall of Fame entrance.
The Miller Lite stage: parking lot near the corner of South Tryon Street and East Stonewall Street, across from the Mint Museum.
The three headline performances will take place on Saturday, May 26th. Night Ranger and Loverboy will perform on the Coca-Cola stage starting at 8pm, while Clay Walker will kick off his performance on the Miller Lite stage at 9:30pm. Other performers include country artist Easton Corbin, and R&B artists Evelyn “Champagne” King and Midnight Star.
Another popular feature of Speed Street is Food Lion Kids’ Zone, on Tryon Street from 3rd to 4th Street. Live family-friendly entertainment will be presented on the Cheerios stage at Kids’ Zone during the festivities. On Friday, from 3:30 – 5:30pm, No. 31 Wheaties racing pit crew and crew chief Drew Blickensderfer will make an appearance, and driver Jeff Burton also will appear from 5pm to 7pm.
The Taste of Food Lion stage will host several interactive cooking demonstrations, as well as driver appearances including Kyle Busch, Aric Almirola and Ryan Newman. Almirola and Newman will participate in cooking demonstrations with Chef Nicky.
Festival goers will also have the opportunity try out simulators and test drive several Chevrolet models.
If you’re not planning to go to Speed Street, fair warning: steer clear of this part of uptown!
