tree climbing competition

The Charlotte Arborists Association is holding the 2012 Tree Climbing Competition on Saturday, April 28th, 2012, and Sunday, April 29th, on the Princeton Avenue side of Freedom Park. Spectators can watch 39 competitors, both men and women, from all over the world demonstrate their climbing skills, using nothing but a rope and saddle. They’ll compete in five preliminary events on Saturday, from 9am to 4pm, with the top five competitors advancing to the finals on Sunday from 9am to 4pm.

If watching isn’t enough for you, you’re invited to participate in a FREE fun climb (pictured above) on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Although the fun climb is set up primarily for kids, people of all ages are welcome to participate. A system of ropes will be in the tree, and climbers will be fitted with harnesses so that they can climb in the tree.

  1. The dates in the article text are listed incorrectly. They are Saturday, April 28th and Sunday April 29th.

  2. Thanks. Not sure how I made that error! Fixed now.

  3. What are the age requirements to “free climb”?. I have a 3yr old.

  4. Will there be tree climbing for kids on Sunday also?

  5. Jim, The free fun climb is on Saturday, but not Sunday.

Chris, I’m not sure the age (or size) requirement for climbers. I know that there’s a harness of some kind so it’s possible a 3 year old would be too small, but I don’t know. If you follow the link in the article there is some contact information for the people running the event.
