Mecklenburg Extension Master Gardeners will be holding free “Ask a Master Gardener Days” on some Saturdays at Charlotte Regional Farmers Markets starting April 7th, 2012. (They will also be at Davidson Farmers MArket and Matthews Community Farmers Markets starting later in the spring.)
The events at Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, at 1801 Yorkmount Road, in the Greenery Shed, will take place from 7:30am to 1pm.
April 7, 2012 – Soil – Where It All Begins: Learn about Piedmont soil types and how to build healthy soil for healthy plants; free soil test kits available on request.
April 14, 2012 – Home Grown and Local Produce: Learn about growing food in your garden and preserving fresh produce. Meet Kristen Davis, Mecklenburg County Extension Agent, Local Foods/Food Safety and Preservation.

May 5, 2012 – Got Bugs, Get Answers: Meet Scott Ewers, Mecklenburg County Extension Agent, Consumer and Commercial Horticulture, our expert on integrated pest management and disease control in your yard.
May 19, 2012 – Go Green in Your Garden: Learn easy, cost-saving practices to be more organic and sustainable in your yard.
June 2, 2012 – Worms – Nature’s Royal Recyclers: Learn all about vermiculture (composting with worm bins) including how to start your own bin; see demonstration bins; and enjoy fun, hands-on activities for the kids.
June 16, 2012 – Go Native: Learn benefits of using native perennials, trees, and shrubs in your yard; glean advice on plant selection for your garden; plant lists available on request.
September 8, 2012 – Local Foods: Farm to Fork: Extension Agent Kristin Davis offers information about the benefits of local foods and the Center for Environmental Farming Farm to Fork 10% Campaign.
September 15, 2012 – Lawn Care 101: Learn cost-effective, earth-friendly techniques for planting a new or renovating an old lawn and keeping it healthy and beautiful.
