This African dance workshop will be held at the Gantt Center on Saturday, February 11, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. The cost is just $5 (free for Gantt Center members.) Make sure to RSVP in advance. Here is some more information from the Gantt Center website:
Sofa is a very old rhythm of Maninka, or Malinke origin, that glorified kings and great warriors, many of whom rode horses. The rhythm originates from the Kouroussa, KanKan and Faranah regions of Upper Guinea. The Sofa dance moves are bold and easy to follow and when dancing Sofa you become observant and more aware. This is a rhythm about heart and courage. Come learn about the people, purpose and history of the Sofa hunter dance through an interactive mini-workshop that includes a multimedia introduction to the hunter tribes of Burkina Faso, Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire.
