Have I mentioned how much I love The Last Word, a used book/DVD/game system/videos/CD store at 230 East W.T. Harris Blvd? Or did you miss it the first couple times? The Last Word has been a wonderful addition to the university area (it’s at the corner of Harris and N. Tryon.) It’s huge, friendly, and inexpensive. I’ve never walked away empty-handed. I’ve always found a book, or DVD, or even a vinyl record that I couldn’t live without. They offer an excellent price, especially in trade, for your old items. It’s possible, just by digging through your bookcase before you go, to not pay a penny for your new treasures.
They offer free coffee on Friday, a free community space, a free venue for artists to display their work, and so much more. They’re always trying new things and are extremely community minded.
Here are a couple of new things going on.
Leading up to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on Friday, they are showing all the previous movies all week, on a repetitive loop. The movies are playing on a TV with some nice comfy chairs around it. So it’s not a theater experience, but it’s very cozy. I can’t say exactly when each movie will be playing, but give them a call at (704) 966-WORD and they can probably give you an idea. My son decided to skip seeing Deathly Hallows Part 1 when it was released, because he didn’t want to wait months between the two movies. So we might catch Part 1 at The Last Word this week.
In addition to buying and selling Magic: The Gathering singles now, they will be holding their first ever Friday Night Magic tournament Friday, July 15th, at 7pm. You must be at the store to register by 6:30pm. The format will be Standard (Type 2). Entry is FREE, and the winner will receive 3 booster packs of his or her choice; 1 booster pack for the runner up. Give them a call (or better yet, visit the store) this week if you have any questions.

I did some trade ins and walked out with 3 cookbooks( since I’m into cooking now) , a Last word coffee mug and a cd they were playing, saved over $20 bucks on the books
